Electricity and Magnetism

LESSON DESCRIPTION:
Students model electrical circuits as they participate in cooperative outdoor games. With each student holding two cups, the class will be organized into various bucket brigade teams to compete in various “events” that involve pouring water. The movement of the water represents the flow of electricity through various circuits.

TIME REQUIRED:
One Hour

OBJECTIVES:
Students learn the differences between series and parallel circuits and the differences between AC and. DC current. Students learn how light bulbs, capacitors and batteries function in a circuit.

FACILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
This activity requires a level outdoor space 100 feet long by 30 feet wide. Requires access to a hose attachment to fill buckets of water.

SAFETY:
Students will be running structured relay type races with water cups in their hands. Students need to follow directions and participate with their attention on safety.
