SIMPLE MACHINES
SAMSON'S COLUMNS: Students get to learn which structural shapes are the strongest. Using only one ordinary sheet of paper, they attempt to see how many books they can support at least 1 inch off of the table. The record is 152 pounds! (2nd thru 6th grade) INVENTIONS AND INVENTORS: Students get to see some odd patents and then they work individually and as a group to perfect their own inventions. (1st thru 6th grade) GYROSCOPES: Students discover how the gyroscopic effect can help them steer a bicycle then they make their own gyroscopic top and try to make it spin as long as possible. (2nd through 6th grade) TOOTHPICK TOWER: Students try to build a tower as tall and as strong as possible with a limited supply of materials and time.
